Position Objective:
We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic science teacher to deliver the Cambridge Secondary Science curriculum at IGCSE and A Level. The ideal candidate will have a strong background and broad scientific knowledge, with the ability to inspire students across different age groups. This role requires excellent teaching skills, a passion for scientific inquiry, and the ability to adapt teaching methods to suit different levels of learners.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons aligned with:
- Cambridge Lower Secondary Science (stages 7-9)
- Cambridge IGCSE
- Cambridge International AS
- Develop and implement comprehensive schemes of work that cover all required skills, topics, and practical work for each level.
- Create stimulating classroom and laboratory environments that foster scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills across all age groups.
- Utilize a variety of teaching methods and resources, including practical experiments, demonstrations, computer simulations, and digital tools, to cater to different learning styles and abilities.
- Guide students through scientific skill development, adapting approaches to suit the level:
- Focus on fundamental scientific concepts and methods in Lower Secondary
- Develop more advanced scientific knowledge and practical skills in IGCSE
- Foster sophisticated analytical thinking, mathematical applications, and independent research at A Level
- Ensure safe practices in laboratories
- Prepare students for Cambridge examinations at each level, including guidance on various question types, practical assessments, and exam techniques.
- Assess and monitor student progress regularly, using both formative and summative assessment techniques aligned with Cambridge standards for each level.
- Provide detailed and constructive feedback on students' work, including lab reports, problem sets, and theoretical assignments.
- Encourage students to engage with science beyond the curriculum through activities such as physics clubs, science olympiads, and engineering projects.
- Communicate effectively with parents about student progress and well-being through regular meetings and reports.
- Collaborate with colleagues in the Science department to ensure a cohesive curriculum from Lower Secondary through A Level.
- Stay updated with current developments in science education and related pedagogical approaches
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions, and other school activities.
- Support older students in their university applications.
Position requirements:
Essential
- Bachelor's degree in Science/ Physics/ Chemistry/ Biology or a closely related field
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or international equivalent (PGCE)
- Minimum of 5 years' experience teaching Science across secondary levels (11-18 years old)
- In-depth knowledge of the Cambridge Science curricula from Lower Secondary to A Level
- Excellent understanding of assessment and examination requirements for all relevant Cambridge Science qualifications
- Strong classroom and laboratory management skills with ability to adapt to different age groups
- Proficiency in using technology and digital resources to enhance teaching and learning
Desired
- Master's degree in Science Education, or related field
- Experience teaching in an international school setting
- Familiarity with other curricula (e.g., IB) for a broader perspective
- Experience in curriculum development and resource creation for science education
